Q. Why do you believe it is important to promote diversity within the police force? TIP – This Police Officer interview question is assessing your views on diversity, and your understanding of why it is so important within the Police Force. When answering this question, show you fully understand what diversity is and why it is essential if the police are to provide a first-class service. Q. What values do you believe are core to protecting the community? TIP – The police force has several important values it expects all police staff to adhere to when carrying out their duties. When answering this police officer interview question, talk about the importance of the values and how you will ensure they are adhered to in your daily work. Q. How would your approach change when engaging with a suspect who is male, compared to a suspect who is female?  TIP – This is a very difficult police officer interview question that, in my opinion, needs to be answered carefully. Remember to say you will follow your training and the operational procedures that are in place. As a police officer, you have a duty of care for all individuals and no one should be treated unfairly based on their gender. Q. Tell me about a time when you acted with integrity? TIP – This interview question is assessing a time when you previously demonstrated one of the police officer values – INTEGRITY. My advice is to structure your response using the STAR technique: Situation, Task, Action and Result. Q. You are working on high-profile case, and a journalist has obtained your private phone number. He contacts you asking to anonymously confirm a rumour that has been circulating. How do you respond? TIP – Again, this is a very difficult interview question to respond to. However, try to use some common sense and remember that two of the police values are INTEGRITY and IMPARTIALITY! Q. Would you treat a teenage boy and an elderly man differently if they had both been assaulted?  TIP – Again, this is a very difficult police officer interview question to answer. However, my advice is to always focus on the values of a police officer when explaining how you would deal with incidents of this nature. One of those values is IMPARTIALITY and it would be your duty to use the evidence that is available to make a fair and objective decision. Q. 4 months ago you agreed to attend your childhood friends’ wedding. When your rota is released you are scheduled to work the day of the wedding. What do you do? TIP – This police officer final interview question assesses your priorities. What is more important to you? Your friends wedding, or your work as a police officer? Q. What would you do if you heard your colleague being racially abusive to someone? Q. Give an example of a time when you experienced conflict and how you resolved it? TIP – Dealing with conflict is an essential part of being a police officer. When dealing with any situation that involves conflict, remain calm, maintain confidence and use effective communication skills to achieve a successful outcome. Q. Do you have any restrictions on the locations you are able to work? Q. Tell me about a time when you had to be tactful to resolve a situation? TIP – Communication and interpersonal skills are vital if you are to perform your duties as a police officer to the necessary standard. Once again, make sure you use the STAR technique to structure your answer to this difficult interview question.
