In our "what if" Vicksburg wargame, we explored one of the most fascinating near misses of the American Civil War. What if Longstreet and two divisions had been sent West in the spring of 1863 to support Vicksburg? Confederate leadership in Richmond debated that very possibility. But many of you left comments on the video asking a natural follow up question...what about the East? Without Longstreet and two of his best divisions, how would Lee have coped in Virginia during the summer of 1863? How would this strategic shift have impacted his ambitions to invade the North?
