Finnish runner Paavo Nurmi was a legend of Olympic athletics in the 1920's, having won the 10,000m, Individual cross country and the team cross country at the Antwerp 1920 Games, seeming almost invincible. However, in the 5,000m Frenchman Joseph Guillemot showed that he even a legend like Paavo Nurmi could be beaten. When Nurmi began his usual move to break away from the pack, Guillemot did not let go of the Finn. During the final lap, the French runner overtook Paavo Nurmi who lost his first Olympic final. Guillemot also won silver in the 10,000m where Nurmi took Olympic gold.
