Suspect Takes GSP on Lengthy High Speed Interstate Pursuit

Thanks for tuning in! Don't forget to check out the new merch, link is below! https://www.stateboyzzz.com/ Trooper's Report: On April 17, 2021, at approximately 03311 hours, I was patrolling on Interstate 85 north near Buford Highway. I observed a white passenger car traveling north on Interstate 85 without any headlights on in the right lane. I activated my emergency equipment, blue lights, and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. At this time, the driver turned on his right turn signal, reduced the vehicle's speed, and attempted to be looking for a place to stop as he exited onto Buford Highway. Once we traveled to the bottom of the Buford Highway ramp, the driver accelerated at a high rate of speed and initiated a pursuit. I activated my siren, along with my blue lights, and advised Troop C Communications I was now in pursuit of the vehicle I was attempting to stop. The driver continued traveling on Buford Highway north at a high rate of speed and making erratic lane changes. The driver then took the ramp to travel back onto Interstate 85 north. The driver traveled north on Interstate 85 north at speeds up to 150 miles per hour, making erratic lane changes, failing to turn on his headlights, and almost striking multiple vehicles. Due to the performance limitations of my patrol vehicle, I was unable to perform a Precision Immobilization Technique maneuver on the vehicle. I continued pursuing the vehicle until he attempted to exit onto Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road. As the driver traveled up the exit ramp at a high rate of speed, he attempted to make a right hand turn. The vehicle traveled straight through the red light, across the intersection, and crashed into a patch of bushes, trees, and a fence. I advised Troop C Communications that the driver had now crashed and I needed Fire and EMS en route to my location. I was unable to cross at the intersection due to a raised median. By the time I turned around and returned to the scene of the crash, the driver had fled on foot. Gwinnett County Police Department had been notified by Troop C Communications of pursuit and were already on scene along with a K-9 unit. Gwinnett County's K-9 unit, myself, and other units began a track in search of the driver who fled on foot. The driver, later identified as Quandravius Jewell, was located hiding in a fern patch alongside of Interstate 85 north. Mr. Jewell was given multiple verbal commands to crawl out of the fern patch, and he eventually did. Once out of the fern, I observed Mr. Jewell to have bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech, and I could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. I observed Mr. Jewell to have a minor injury to his ear. I spoke with Mr. Jewell about the incident, and he made many conflicting statements about where he was coming from and how he got there. Mr. Jewell then stated that he couldn't have been driving because he was drunk. Due to the conditions of the vehicle and Mr. Jewell's body composition, it was determined that the driver's seat was the only place he was and could have been sitting. The owner of the vehicle also arrived on scene to retrieve the vehicle and said that Mr. Jewell called her during the pursuit. He advised her that he was being chased by police and she needed to come get her car. Mr. Jewell's vehicle was towed from the scene by Wilard's Wrecker. Mr. Jewell was transported to Northside Gwinnett Medical Center. I was advised by a Gwinnett Sergeant that the jail would not accept the subject due to the crash despite medical clearance. I notified Mr. Jewell of his charges. I advised him that he needed to turn himself in to the Gwinnett County Jail tomorrow. I obtained warrants through a Gwinnett County Magistrate Judge. Mr. Jewell was released to the hospital for treatment and released on warrants without further incident.
