How to relic a Tweed Amp - 1952 Fender Tweed Pro

We promised we wouldn’t keep you waiting too long! In this episode, we detail the finishing and relic’ing of a freshly re-tweeded 1952 Fender ‘TV’ Pro amplifier. And after we show you how to put everything back together, Ed takes it for a test drive at Vintage Tone Factory Studio. To our eyes the shellac and nitro finish is the best way to achieve a vintage correct look, and you can apply these techniques to modern tweed amps and home builds if you like that 1950s vibe. For the demo jam, Ed takes the Pro through its paces demonstrating the broad range of available tones from such an ostensibly simple 3 knob amplifier. The guitars used are a 1964 Stratocaster, a 1964 Fender Precision bass, a 1964 Epiphone Casino and a 1954 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop, all running directly into the amp. The amp is mic’d with a Coles 4038 and recorded through a Chandler REDD .47 preamp with no added effects.
