This is what it is like flying during the pandemic. Today we make the 22 hour journey where we fly from Japan to the U.K. I have never seen Narita International Airport so empty before. The current situation has left it deserted as it has become more difficult to travel. Put your Japan trip on hold for now! International travel to and from Japan right now is nearly impossible. This is partly due to Japan having an extensive list of countries that are currently banned from entering and also because you wouldn’t have many flight options. During the pandemic, airline travel has become more limited and you can either pay a lot of money for a direct flight or pay a lot less but be in for a very long journey. If you are flying domestically in Japan, more shops and restaurants will be open in those departure areas. International area establishments still operate on very reduced hours. There was no place for us to get food aside from some snacks from a vending machine. The cabin crew and check in/boarding staff were dressed in full protective equipment. When on board the flight, there had to be an empty seat between each passenger and masks had to be worn at all times on the plane. Taking these precautions could be the future of travel. Even though I live in Tokyo, I had the opportunity to travel to both Northern and Southern Japan and I hope to give you some useful tips, and recommend places to visit on your next trip to Japan!
