Live Right and Find Happiness | Dave Barry | Talks at Google

New York Times-bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize-winning humorist Dave Barry should be a happy man. He has all the elements of a good life: a loving family, a nice home, a dog that doesn’t pee indoors without a good reason, a full head of hair and several original teeth. And if all that isn’t enough, he’s had a long and rewarding career that consists of being able to write pretty much any random thing he wants. For example: “You can put suspenders on a salamander, but it still won’t make waffles.” That sentence makes absolutely no sense, but he got paid to write it. Yet the harsh truth is that happiness is an elusive thing, and fortunately Dave tells how to capture it—or not—in LIVE RIGHT AND FIND HAPPINESS (ALTHOUGH BEER IS MUCH FASTER): Life Lessons and Other Ravings from Dave Barry. Dave Barry’s most recent books are the essay collection You Can Date Boys When You’re Forty and the comic novel Insane City, both of which were New York Times bestsellers. For more than twenty years, he wrote a weekly humor column for the Miami Herald, which won a Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. He is the author of more than thirty books, including such national bestsellers as the nonfiction I’ll Mature When I’m Dead, Dave Barry’s Money Secrets, Dave Barry Turns 50, and Dave Barry’s Guide to Guys, as well as the novels Tricky Business, Big Trouble, Lunatics (with Alan Zweibel), his Peter Pan prequels (with Ridley Pearson), and his Christmas story, The Shepherd, the Angel, and Walter the Christmas Miracle Dog. Two of his books have been made into movies (Big Trouble and Dave Barry’s Guide to Guys), and a play based on his first Peter Pan book, Peter and the Starcatchers, was a Tony Award-winning Broadway hit For many years, Dave was a guitarist with the late, infamous, and strangely unlamented band the Rock Bottom Remainders. He lives in Coral Gables, Florida.
