Nearly a million people in the UK have undiagnosed diabetes, while those with damage caused by high cholesterol may not show any symptoms until later stages. We welcomed the NHS England mobile screening unit to Bestwood, Nottingham for a free walk-in testing event in May to discuss their risk with a clinician or have a finger prick blood test for early signs of diabetes. Height, weight, blood pressure, BMI checks and Lipid Testing were also available - all of which can be early indicators of developing Type 2 diabetes. You can check if you're at risk of type 2 diabetes by taking a simple online test on the Diabetes UK website: riskscore.diabetes.org.uk Find out more about local Diabetes services in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire at https://notts.icb.nhs.uk/diabetes/ HEALTHIER YOU: THE NHS DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAMME (NDPP) While Type 2 diabetes is a serious condition, with support around three in five cases of Type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed by maintaining a healthy weight, eating well and being active. The NDPP aims to improve service users' knowledge, ability and confidence to make better lifestyle choices, helping them towards: • A healthier diet • Better exercise • Emotional wellbeing and ways to manage stress • Weight management Living Well Taking Control (LWTC) has been delivering the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme (NHS DPP) throughout Nottingham & Nottinghamshire since December 2020. Eligible patients referred onto the Healthier You NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme will be invited to participate in a 9 month intervention aimed at reducing their diabetes risk level. Patients have a choice of accessing the programme in a face-to-face peer group setting alongside participants from their community, or by 1-2-1 app-based coaching provided by our digital partner Liva Healthcare.
