One of my favorite TV shows from the 1970's was Emergency which starred Kevin Tighe and Randolf Mantooth, who both played paramedics for the Los Angeles County fire department. The show was a big success for its time and helped to promote the paramedic program, which at the time was still in its infancy. Although the show was before my time, it became a personal favorite of mine and I have collected some merchandise over the years. Today I'll be looking at Code 3's 1:64 scale replicas of both Squad and Engine 51, along with their replica of Station 51. These pieces came out in the early 2000's and were limited runs, making them highly sought after these days. To find them at a reasonable price has taken me years to do, but overtime I have managed to get the entire collection. Some of the pieces I have do come secondhand however, and therefore do have some minor issues with them. Getting into the review, everything is nicely detailed and looks the part. Squad 51 is pretty much an exact copy of what it was during the shows run, and the same can be said for the Crown pumper as well. The Ward Lafrance however does have some cosmetic differences, making me suspect it may have been an afterthought after the casting became available. Station 51 is also nicely done, however I feel the interior of the structure leaves a lot to be desired. Later on I also do a few comparisons, and also talk a little about my potential plans for the station. Overall I can highly recommend these replicas to any Emergency fans or diecast collectors. I would recommend doing your research and shopping around if you wish to purchase these, as I've mentioned before they are quite expensive and some people really gouge the prices. If you just want a replica of the Squad and don't want to pay a lot, Hot Wheels does make one that's cheaper, but does lack a lot of detail and the correct look. Either way, if you can find these Code 3 replicas, they really are a great addition to have for any Emergency collection.
