The comedy world lost a rising star on February 25, 2021. Erik Myers who’s brand of comedy was not only outrageous it was unique and one-of-a-kind. Erik had just begun to carve out his own niche and unique voice in the comedy world right when COVID hit. Hopping from club to club to pick up a few bucks here and there to pay rent and eat, but more importantly to hone your craft and be seen by audiences, all but taken away by this deadly disease. Needless to say the downtime for a comedian such as Erik has been more than diversionary as he as well as all stand-up comedians struggle to survive as it is. Add in having lost their lifeline…the stage, their live audience, only ads to the struggle to survive as a stand-up comedian in a COVID world. The details are still coming in, so we don’t know exactly what happened. All we know is that he was struck by a vehicle just outside of Amarillo Texas. Sadder still, Erik had just buried his Father on February 17 who had passed away from a long bout with cancer. When the news of Eriks passing hit social media this morning I couldn't believe what I was reading. Can't be, could it be another Erik Myers? He was such a sweet human being and a brilliant mind. Erik was only just reaching his rightful place in the comedy world before all of this craziness. Erik and his style of comedy will surely be missed by all who enjoyed his manic and hilarious sense of humor. I for one was a big fan and he made me laugh every time I saw him perform. I enjoyed every minute working with Erik on this show, which turned out to be his last performance on Showtime. Erik was a true talent. This is so sad to hear. Heartbroken for sure, the comedy world will surely be a little less funny tonight.
