NEW EPISODE HERE!    • KTM RC390 Goes Racing Pt. 8   INSTAGRAM: @thedoctorchocolate With a ton of work needed to be completed on my new 2015 KTM RC390, it was a last minute scramble to get two weeks worth of work done on the bike in only five days. Despite the challenge, come race day, my bike was ready for action. I headed out to round 5 of arguably the most competitive Ultra Lightweight Championship on the West Coast, the Chuckwalla Valley Motorcycle Association. Following a year long racing drought and an extreme lack of seat time on my RC390 I chose the most STACKED competition weekend to pop my KTM cherry. The grids were 34 riders deep with competition capable of running times fast enough to put them on the podium in the Amateur 600 class. Despite the challenges, my goals were simple, keep the bike on two wheels and improve my times over the course of the day. I started the day with a 2:23 and ended the day with a best lap of 2:13.1, less than four seconds off my PR on my TZ150 of a 2:09.3 and less than two seconds off of my best time on a Ninja 250 of a 2:11.3. The issues on the bike that I am focusing on improving are the front end feel. I also noticed that the bike is a bit nervous/twitchy during fast transitions. Overall I think once the bike is dialed in I'll be able to go sub 2:09's. KTM Aftermarket Spec's: My RC is equipped with an Ohlins rear shock, Tyga bodywork, Driven Triple clamps, Vortex clipons, Shorai battery, Galfer front disc, and we had removed the entire ABS unit to get full use of my brakes and open up the airflow to improve cooling.
