TBPPM in Action | World Health Partners | Virtual Field Visit - India

World Health Partners (WHP) is an Indian non-profit organization that sets up programs to bring sustainable healthcare with easy access to underserved and vulnerable communities. It innovatively harnesses existing resources more efficiently by using evidence-based management and technological solutions. WHP is best known for its programs focused on early detection and treatment of tuberculosis supported by community-based activities to ensure prevention. The organization harnesses the strengths of both the public and private sectors to ensure access to high-quality treatment for people. To accelerate the progress towards the elimination of TB, WHP has adopted several innovations, such as adherence support strategies by leveraging mobile phones and video technology as well as a web-based and case-based electronic reporting system. By aligning technology experts with program managers under the same roof, WHP has found that the solutions are more grounded, time-saving and cost-efficient. WHP has used technologies to connect rural communities with city-based medical personnel, mobile phones to track adherence and alerts, an interactive voice response system for demand generation and client empowerment, flow-casting solutions to track the movement of products, a looping process to interconnect suspect identification-tests-diagnosis-medicine release-adherence tracking-treatment completion and computer-aided differential diagnosis to assist doctors for standardized care. WHP’s TB projects have earned praise from national and international agencies for creatively harnessing existing resources to deliver greater impact. WHPs THALI project led to creating a pathway by which community resources are leveraged to provide patient-centric care. The Mental Health component within the program not only explored a new way of providing services and counseling but has also attracted attention to mental health issues that were often neglected and overlooked by providers and families. WHP has been recognized as a pioneer in social entrepreneurship and innovative technology solutions. In 2011, WHP won the coveted first prize at the IT @ Networking Awards in Brussels, Belgium. In 2013, its founder received two awards - the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, which recognized WHP’s innovative market-based approach towards improving the quality of rural health care by creating a complete service delivery ecosystem; and the Schwab Foundation (World Economic Forum) Global Entrepreneurship Award. WHP as a Patient Provider Support Agency (PPSA), in three states of India, has been focusing on implementing TB prevention and treatment interventions with extensive government support thereby marking an important milestone in the health sector for scaled-up, sustainable programming. The PPSA approach validates WHP’s long-held belief that the foundational premise of a scale-up project should be that it is over only when the problem it seeks to address is over. The PPSA innovation not only attracts government support to strengthen field processes, it also creates an enabling environment for which the government’s supplementary support is available for patient welfare. The TBPPM LN, launched in October 2019, is a vibrant community of practice sharing resources, information and lessons learned by community members. We facilitate timely, dynamic, effective and efficient interaction amongst a full range of policymakers, implementers, researchers and others interested in engaging all providers for TB care and prevention. ----------- Be a part of the TBPPM Learning Network: https://www.tbppm.org/ Follow us on Twitter:   / tb_ppm   Watch TBPPM Virtual Field Visits in India -    • Virtual PPM Field Visits - India   Watch PPM in Action -    • Aye Aye Mu | Sun Community Health | M...
