Here is a jazz lick I borrowed and made it my own from one of the great jazz drummers out there. I first heard it from Tony Williams in the tune "seven steps to heaven". I approach it like playing a fast jazz ride pattern with both hands. The hi-hat is not on the downbeat, but on the last 16th note before the next downbeat.
