ABOUT THE MUSIC CENTER'S SPOTLIGHT GRAND FINALE The Music Center's Spotlight Grand Finale features an evening of unforgettable performances by our 14 Spotlight Grand Prize Finalists at The Music Center's Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Join us to celebrate the culmination of a multi-faceted year-long journey by these incredibly talented high school artists who are part of the Spotlight program. 00:00 Introduction by Luca Mendoza 00:08 Interview with William Schwartzman 02:38 William Schwartzman performs "Darn that Dream" ABOUT WILLIAM SCHWARTZMAN William Schwartzman, 18, is a senior at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts where he plays in the Big Band and Blue Note Combo under Alex Hahn. He has studied jazz piano with Taylor Eigsti, Tyler Henderson, Daniel Rotem and the late Mike Lang. He is a member of the Colburn School’s Thursday Night Band under Lee Secard. William played at the 2022 Monterey and Vail jazz festivals and will play at Carnegie Hall and tour Europe with the National Youth Orchestra Jazz this summer. Awards include: DownBeat Magazine Jazz Soloist and Composition Student Music Awards (2022-2023); National YoungArts Honorable Mention in Jazz Piano (2022). He thanks his parents, teachers, and friends. William will attend The Juilliard School this fall. This is William’s third year participating in Spotlight. ABOUT SPOTLIGHT Much more than a competition, Spotlight provides performing arts scholarships and artistic development to empower high school students by emphasizing preparation, courage, critical thinking and perseverance while providing an invaluable opportunity for students to hone their skills! Southern California High School students of ALL skill levels are encouraged to apply for FREE. $100,000 in cash scholarships are awarded each year to students along with personalized feedback, eligibility for mastery classes with world-renowned artists and more! Categories include Acting, Ballet, Classical Instrumental, Classical Voice, Dance, Contemporary Instrumental Music and Non-Classical Voice.
