In the second video of our series "Routes Europe Uncovered: How airports attract airlines", we look closer at the relationship between airports and airlines and its typical dynamics. We asked our interlocutors about the most recent developments in the airline business model, as well as the more deeply-ingrained airline tactics ruling the route development process. In this video, our interlocutors talk about airline consolidation putting pressure on airports and creating an environment of even greater competition among them. They also tell us what do airports typically have to offer to airlines in order to gain their cooperation. The video was taken during Routes Europe 2018, taking place in Bilbao, Spain. What is Routes? Not many non-aviation people know about the existence of Routes, a global network of events during which airport representatives meet airlines to try to establish new air connections from their airport.
