Tom Chambers was one of the best game dunkers in the NBA during the 1980s and early 1990s. His dunk over Mark Jackson in 1989 remains one of the greatest dunks in NBA history. This Ultimate Dunk Mix highlights many of Chambers’ best dunks over his 16-year NBA career. Background: Tom Chambers was a prototype for today’s big athletic Stretch 4 forwards. His speed on the fast break combined with his extraordinary leaping ability led to frequent dunks. While not particularly flashy, Chambers dunked with authority and he posterized many of the top shot blockers in the NBA during his day. Chambers preferred the two-hand dunk, often rising to near head-level with the rim and cocking the ball back behind his head to add extra force before flushing it through. Chambers played in an era before ESPN’s SportsCenter, before the Internet, and before HD video. This fact combined with playing the prime of his career in small media markets in Seattle and Phoenix has made it very difficult to obtain game footage. Despite playing in over 1100 regular season and 100 playoff games, there’s very little footage available and most of his best dunks remain locked away in the NBA’s video archive. This Ultimate Dunk Mix represents the culmination of more than 10 years collecting game footage of Tom Chambers.
