Street Fighter, King of Fighters, Mortal Kombat even - all of them needed an answer to Virtua Fighter, Soulcalibur, and Tekken. They were visually impressive, they pushed boundaries, and for some reason people didn't care all that much about exceptional spritework anymore. A new wave was crashing.
