Exploring St. Petersburg | Russia 🇷🇺 Russian Museum and Yusupov Palace

Today we explore the very center of St. Petersburg, Russia, starting with the Russian Museum and Yusupov Palace on the Moika. Hey everyone, welcome to a new vlog. I had to take some pictures of the tourist sites for work, so I’ll bring you along with me. Today we are going to head over to the Russian Museum, also known as the Mikhailovsky Palace. The Russian Museum held its grand opening in 1898, in what used to be the residence of Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich. Now, it is the world’s largest museum dedicated to Russian art. Inside, one can find modern art as well as pieces that date back to the 10th century. Our second site to explore today is the Yusupov Palace on the Moika canal. The Yusupovs were an immensely wealthy noble family and the palace held over 40,000 artworks when it was taken over by the Soviets. But who were the Yusupovs? For that, we must go back to the 14th century, to a Tatar named Edigu. The last memorable moment of the Yusupovs was their involvement in the elimination of Rasputin in this very palace on the Moika.
