In 1981, Nashville Luthier Tom Holmes built Lenny a seven-string guitar which because of its standard neck scale had to be tuned down a whole tone. The Holmes seven string disappeared after eight months and Lenny returned to playing a standard six string electric. Then in 1982, Lenny met luthier Kirk Sand at the Atlanta Namm show and asked him to build a seven-string guitar that could be tuned to standard pitch. Kirk spent the next eight months building Lenny a short scale guitar which he presented to Lenny at the Chicago Namm show in February of 1983. Lenny was delighted with the guitar and it was his sole electric instrument for the remainder of his life. 1. Lenny Discusses His New Kirk Sand Guitar 00:19 2. Vision 01:50 3.
