Yanagisawa A WO1 A WO10 Alto Saxophones: I try Yanni's for the First Time!

I teach music lessons in Vancouver Washington at Beacock music. They have these two altos currently and I've never tried many Yanigisawas, not sure if I've ever tried any honestly? I've always heard great things and the magazines I read as a kid left me with an opinion that they are one of the big three. My sax teacher told me as a kid that there were three tenor players. John Coltrane, Joe Henderson and Sonny Rollins, lots of other great ones but these guys were the best. I sort of feel like Selmer, Yamaha and Yanagisawa have that big three reputation though I won't cast them as to who is equivalent to each player. I have known a number of fine players who used them and I have just not had too many chances to try them so on this day I took a minute and tried them out. They feel different than Selmer or Yamaha to me. The keys were a little dipped inward but not much. Everything felt good, keys were all in the right place and the air felt good to put through the horn. I honestly think they both played equally well, I really like the underslung octave mechanism but I enjoyed playing the first one so much I don't know which would feel or sound better blindfolded. I really hope to try some of their tenors some time. Cheers and best wishes to all.
