Mixed traffic in the N.E. and Scotland late '50s/early 60s

In this video we see a selection of steam hauled trains that could be seen in the N.E. and Scotland in the late 1950s. An express hauled by an 'A3' consisting of Gresley teak coaches painted in crimson and cream passes a 'V2' on a typical working for this class, a mixed postal and passenger train which includes a fish van at the rear. Also in view is a BR Standard Class 5 with a cattle train and the Caledonian 'Single' hauling two restored Caledonian coaches which had recently brought back into service around about this time. The Caledonian coaches are pure Tri-ang' (as is the 'Single') but now with a much higher level of finish and presentation. I will be featuring a further updated variant of these vehicles in the near future. The cattle wagons are also Tri-ang, repainted, transferred and re-wheeled. Loosely based on an LMS diagram, these wagons made their first appearance in 1956 and for me at least still look the part even though they are not representative of any original design. The brake van is a Tri-ang-Hornby model dating from 1967. Again, not an accurate representation of the real thing, it was a huge advance on the Tri-ang van which had been in the catalogue since the early 1950s. It languished in my collection for decades until I decided to give it a bit of a 'makeover' with a re-paint and added an additional step board. Thank you for watching.
