Zamboni: Horizontal Conveyor Bearings

Whats good everyone for this episode I replace the horizontal conveyor bearings on the Zamboni 546. This is part of a bigger maintenance overhaul I do on the conditioner about every five years. However, since how the bearings are mounted on the 546 vs the 500 are different I will do the bearings separate than everything else. Cranking on the bolts to remove the sprocket from the collar was not a smart move. At times it comes off easy and others not so easy. I believe we did the same thing when removing the sprocket off the Zam 500 for first time years back. If it has been a few years or if the the sprocket has never been taken off, best just to use a puller to remove it and save yourself the trouble of broken bolts. Also do not use a big metal backer plate for the bearing puller when removing the sprocket. The sprocket needs to slip off the auger shaft and the mental plate I shown was too big so I used a steal round slug (not shown) to slide the sprocket off the auger shaft with the puller. I should have sprayed Aero Kroil to break loose the set screws. Letting it soak for a few minutes for best results. Every ice rink should have a can. A can can last 5 years plus. Although expense, as I said, it lasts for some time. * As far as using the bearing puller. I had to insert a steal slug between the puller and the auger shaft. There is a indentation to fit the bearing puller tip into the end of the auger shaft. However, my puller’s tip was just being sucked into the auger shaft. One time I thought I may have expanded the end the the auger shaft. I used a round mental slug to prevent the bearing pullers tip from going inside the end of the auger shaft.
