Drama as Turkana MPs clash over protocol

Two legislators from Turkana County on Saturday, July 15 clashed over protocol in a fundraiser organised by Kiniamarae Women Group in Lopur location in Turkana South Sub-County. Drama unfolded shortly after Turkana South MP Dr John Ariko reportedly invited the county governor to the podium when the Woman Rep. had not addressed the meeting. The duo exchanged harsh words in the full glare of the public and leaders who watched the drama unfolding left in shock and dismay. - 'I'm the area MP' - The MP attempted to thwart the Woman Rep. from addressing the public warning her of breaching the protocol leading to altercation between the duo. "I am the area MP and the host. I request you to address the public first and pass the microphone to me. Don't try to breach the protocol," Dr Ariko warned. The brawl escalated tension among the two factions one led by the area MP and the other by the Woman Rep that led to temporarily halting of fund drive for 30 minutes. The flare-ups led to fleeing of some residents who participated in fund raiser fearing for their lives before the security and a section of leaders intervened to calm the crowd. "You the MP you have overstepped your mandate and broken the protocol. I am the County Woman Rep. I am suppose to invite the governor to speak not you because I am the County Woman Rep," Mrs Ng'itit explained. But the legislator insisted that the woman Rep should address the public first and dismissed her stand of demanding the MP to follow the protocol. - Governor leaps to Woman Rep's defence - It forced Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai to intervene and he accused the MP of being gender insensitive. "I am the governor of this County. I won't allow such barbaric behaviour to happen under my watch. Its shameful for the MP to undermine and trying to disrespect somebody because she is a woman. The MP must know that the Woman Rep holds high position in the County than the MP," Governor Lomorukai said Thank you for watching this video.
