[POV] 2021 Renault Talisman 1.7 Blue dCi Test Drive

The Talisman launched at the end of 2015 to replace the Laguna and Latitude and in early 2020 it received a mild update, which consists of improved styling, slight interior improvements and more in terms of driving aids like Traffic & Highway assistant, semi-autonomous driving, adaptive Matrix LED lights etc. The interior is well finished overall, but it is clear that this is not in a premium vehicle. The materials are soft to the touch except the lower parts where you can find cheaper feeling plastics. An identical dashboard design can be found in the lower range Megane, which some costumers may find as a drawback. Classic switchgear controls are easy to find and feel good to the touch, but the R-Link 2 multimedia system itself seems very complicated and takes a long time to get used to. To meet the latest standards, most engines have been renewed, especially the diesel units. With the retirement of the 1.5 dCi and 1.6 dCi, the entry level is provided by a 1.7-litre 150hp Blue dCi engine. This four-cylinder is always alert and ready to go, thanks to the impressive 340Nm of torque, while still remaining surprisingly economical. On the other hand the soundproofing is not the best, especially under load where the engine is noisy and where it emits some vibrations to the cabin. Fortunately, on the motorway, at a steady pace, it settles down and feels refined. Thanks to the 4Control 4-wheel steering system, the Talisman is planted and and easily controlled on winding roads, it is also makes it very maneuverable around town. The steering is light and not sufficiently informative, which is perfectly acceptable for this kind of car. The ride remains supple and comfort is generally good over uneven roads and especially good on longer motorway trips.
