Col du Galibier - North, Road D902, Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France - by motorcycle

The pass road over the Col du Galibier was opened in 1876. A crest tunnel was then added in 1891. The actual route over the pass was no longer needed and was therefore no longer maintained. It was not until 1976 that the old crossing over the Col du Galibier was renovated and made passable again by removing around 16 metres of the extremely steep pass crossing and creating a small car park at the same time. However, this also reduced the actual height of the pass to 2642 metres. The pass forms the border between the departments of Savoy (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) in the north and Hautes-Alpes (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur) in the south. It can be reached from the north via the Col du Télégraph. The southern ascent turns off to the north at the Col du Lautaret. The northern ascent from Plan Lachat to the pass is just under 9 kilometres long. The road is two-lane, very well developed and easy to drive on. The passage over the Col du Galabier has been a stage of the Tour de France several times and is a popular destination for cyclists and motorcyclists. The road is located in the department of Savoie in the province of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. ▬ Content ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 Intro 00:15 Prolog 01:10 The Ride 13:22 Outro ▬ Links ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Playlist France:    • France / Frankreich   Playlist Passes:    • Passes / Pässe   WalkTheMavic:    / @walkthemavic4197   ▬ About this channel ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Walk The Mavic (WTM) - Interesting roads, passes and gorges in the Alps - Nature and landscapes - Castles, forts, fortresses and fortifications - Photos and videos, if possible and allowed, also aerial photos/videos with the drone.
