In our continuing series documenting the creation of Eddie Sahakian's first bespoke suit by Savile Row tailoring firm Henry Poole, Managing Director Simon Cundey answers Eddie's question about the canvassing that is found on a suit during the fitting process. Used to shape the garment before it is fully sewn together, canvassing can be used to accommodate the individual shape of the customer's bespoke suit based on their physical characteristics. The multiple fittings during the creation of a bespoke garment are what give the final product its integrity. During each fittings, the tailor is able to evaluate the drape and balance of the garment and alter the fit as the suit is being made, ensuing that the final product perfectly flatter's the client's silhouette.
