Tom Kruskal's by Amelia Mason and Emily Troll (2007) for Sapphire Sea (ECD) by Christine Robb (2015)

Original FB post of 27th June 2024 reads: "It was 28 degrees (Celsius) outside so, after a shower and donning of clean, loose fitting garments, even slow instrument practice (along with hanging clothes on the line) was always a sure way of getting sweaty again! However I needed to spend some quality time with the C/F, as playing it in a group was a failure recently - it’s (or I play) too loud indoors, I’m only used to certain tunes and their patterns, and I can’t yet quickly find basic chords, just Dm, Gm and Am (equivalent to Em, Am and Bm on the D/G). So, here is a dance tune (Tom Kruskal’s, written by Amelia Mason and Emily Troll in 2007) that is always popular at Dance Festivals/Weekends and, at approx. 92 bpm, I feel this is very much a dancers' speed, and not one of a session musician. Played three times through. It’s a 16 bar tune (AB) here to fit a specific dance: Sapphire Sea, written by Christine Robb (in 2015) has circles, 1/2 stars (RH / LH turns), a Dolphin/Tandem Hey, sweeping lines of four up the hall and back, and a final swirling gate progression - all serenely oceanic. In my opinion, it’s courteous (to the dancers) to allow enough time for them to enjoy the ‘whoosh’ up and back, and you may even hear the chords calling ‘Come Hither!’ in the hey section (first bit of the B ). Oh, and I smile at the beginning of my recordings, not only because I enjoy the process, but the take(s) before will have most likely gone terribly and hilariously wrong!" Apologies for a break in posting - been a busy June so far!
