J.J. Weaver, UK football player discusses the importance of mental health

JJ Weaver of the University of Kentucky Football team is a force to be reckoned with on the gridiron. As a four-star prospect and Kentucky native, BBN was excited to see him don the blue and white and JJ was putting in the work to make his state proud. But in June of 2020 JJ's world came crashing down when he learned his father had been murdered during a home invasion. JJ poured himself into football - summer workouts, preseason camp and a demanding SEC schedule - to help keep his mind occupied and off the terrible pain of losing his father. His hard work and determination was paying off and on Nov 28, 2020 during his first career start against Florida, he had a career-high six tackles in just three quarters. And then, just like that, he fell to the ground with a season-ending knee injury. What JJ came to learn when trying to deal with his father's death and getting his knee in shape to get back on the field, was that he needed to focus just as much on his mental health, as he was on his physical health.
