Heart Health Awareness, Delicious Indian Cuisine, and Winston-Salem's Most Colorful Building

It’s February, the time of year that we see hearts everywhere we look. But beyond the traditional heart-shaped reminders of Valentine’s Day, the timeliest fact is that February is Heart Health Awareness month!  Did you know that heart disease is the #1 cause of death for both women and men of all ethnic groups across the US?  Did you know that in America one person dies every 33 seconds from cardiovascular disease?  Did you know that 7 out of 10 women don’t know that they have heart disease until they have a heart attack? Attendees of February’s AgingWell will hear from Courtney Reed, MMS, PA-C in Preventive Cardiology at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist on what everyone can do TODAY to protect their hearts and how the symptoms for heart attacks are different in women than they are in men. Do you know the difference? It could save your life or the life of someone you love! AgingWell participants having been asking for more international dishes to be featured in the EatingWell segments and this month we deliver! The hottest spot in downtown Winston-Salem is Oh’ Calcutta Restaurant, located at 310-A W. 4th Street. Oh’ Calcutta features a modern twist on traditional Indian dishes along with a full bar and signature cocktails designed to complement the extensive menu selections. Tandoori Chef Gabriel and Co-Owner Gopal Chandarana will demonstrate how to create Tandoori Paneer, a healthy, vegetarian dish and Nicole Harvey demonstrates how to make their signature Revitalizer cocktail! For months, everyone who has traveled to downtown Winston-Salem has seen the ongoing construction of the city’s most unique and by far most colorful building- the new home of Kaleideum Museum. Very soon the wait will be over as the new, reimagined Kaleideum, located at 120 W. 3rd Street, will have its grand opening on Saturday, February 17th. However, attendees of February’s AgingWell won’t have to wait as we will be treated to a special VIP preview tour, led by Traci Connor, Vice President of Exhibits and Planning. Traci will lead us through the new space and show us the new and expanded exhibits designed for visitors of all ages.
