Rumored for months, this press conference made it official: Tom Snyder was to follow David Letterman's Late Show on a newly-created Letterman-owned talk show on CBS called Late Late Show, starting in early 1995 (January 9). The historical ironies could not be more apparent, as was made all the more clear in the journalists' questions. This is the raw, unedited footage of the press conference. Note: The reporter to whom Dave referred as "Phil Donahue" was then-NY Times television reporter Bill Carter, who, eight months later, would release his book _The Late Shift: Letterman, Leno, and the Network Battle for the Night.
