2/7/1971 North Stars at Bruins Minnesota goalie Gump Worsley makes 63 saves in a 4-4 tie

This is a short silent video of Gump Worsley saves from the Feb. 7, 1971 National Hockey League game between the Minnesota North Stars and the Bruins at Boston Garden, which ended in a 4-4 tie. The veteran Worsley faced 67 shots in this memorable Sunday night match and saved 63 of them. The legendary Gumper wasn't continually frustrating any old team; this was the Big, Bad, Bruins squad that easily took first place in the East Division and was primed to repeat as Stanley Cup champs until falling to Ken Dryden and the Canadiens in the quarterfinals. Bobby Orr fired at least eight howitzers, Phil Esposito was roaming the slot, and Derek Sanderson was talking to himself - and Worsley - after the goalie caught his steaming slapper. Despite the goalie's heroics, the Bruins, who trailed, 4-1, got a late second period goal from Wayne Carleton and third period strikes from Ken Hodge and Johnny Bucyk to pull out the tie. The video was taken from a compilation of Bruins-related clips from Channel 5 in Boston, WHDH-TV at the time. I posted it mainly because there isn't a ton of video from this season, and who doesn't love the Gumper? Copyright National Hockey League, Boston Bruins, WHDH TV, or any other party. I don't claim the rights to, and don't profit from, this video. I just posted it for historical and educational purposes, and for those who will enjoy it as much as I did.
