These rugs are typically made with 100% wool pile and cotton foundation. The Turkish knot is used with a higher knot density. Malayer rugs draw their designs from the traditional designs of Sarouk and Farahan regions. The modern designs are inspired from the American Sarouk designs. You'll typically see floral central medallion and floral allover design. The medallions are either diamond-shaped or hexagonal-shaped. Looking closely, you'll see white dots inside the border of the medallion, a feature Malayer rugs always use. Also, the border of the rug showcases a rope loop effect. Malayer rugs can be found in a wide range of sizes, from smaller rugs measuring 2’x3’ to larger rugs measuring 4’x7’.
