Since the pre-colonial period, there have been various foreign nationalities that have made the Philippines their home. Some arrived only after World War II. One of these groups are the Vietnamese refugees who fled Vietnam by boat and ship following the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. There is no exact count of how many Vietnamese there are in the Philippines, but based on the number of Vietnamese surnames vis-à-vis the population in the country, it can be approximated that there are 0.006% Vietnamese in the Philippines today. More than a quarter (27%) of these can be found in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
