La NS Clase 1600 es un tipo de locomotora eléctrica B′B′ construida por Alstom entre 1980 y 1983 basada en la SNCF Clase BB 7200, y en uso por los Ferrocarriles Holandeses desde 1981. Fueron diseñadas por el diseñador industrial francés Paul Arzens. La Clase 1600 se ordenó en 1978, después de que se probaran varios tipos de locomotoras en la década de 1970. Uno de ellas fue la SNCF BB 7200, en el que se basa el 1600. Las 58 locomotoras se entregaron entre 1981 y 1983. Como resultado de su entrega, las antiguas unidades de Clase 1000 y Clase 1500 fueron retiradas de servicio.
