What Is Neuro-Linguistic Programming? (And Body Postures To Avoid)

Learn the tools used by the most successful communicators in the world by picking up a copy of the "Your Invisible Toolbox" book - https://goo.gl/PnKbVH If there were a way you could instill trust immediately, boost people’s perceptions of your confidence and competence that cost you nothing and could be employed whenever you choose, would you be interested? One branch of Neuro-linguistic Programming is the study of the messages body language sends. We message people without saying a word. NLP has proven humans trust symmetry. We look for and trust symmetry. Conversely, we tend to distrust imbalance. It is in everyone’s interest to be seeking to communicate trust and sincerity, and our body language, if it is symmetrical, supports this goal. Symmetrical posture that triggers trust is a balanced stance with arms at our sides. Can you gesture? Absolutely. Just return your arms to your sides after the gesture to create a neutral symmetrical appearance. Since this stance isn’t comfortable or natural, our bodies do not naturally fall into symmetrical poses. Most experiences that involve others create a bit of tension. Adrenaline pumps through our bodies, and as a result, we tend to posture ourselves in ways that make us comfortable, or that cover and protect our most vulnerable areas. We do some pretty strange things, mostly to comfort ourselves or protect. Have you seen the fig leaf pose? This is a classic where people cross their hands in front of their lower belly or crotch. The person assuming the fig feels more comfort in this pose. Unfortunately, that is not the message they send. The fig communicates weakness. Another comfort pose is crossing our arms and protecting our core or our heart. It is comfortable, especially if we are cold, and protective. Is it effective in communication? It closes us off and creates a psychological barrier between others. Body language can predict the outcome of interactions such as job interviews, dating, and negotiations with an average accuracy of 80%, according to an MIT study by Dr. Alex Pentland. It is best to have it communicate well for us. Rowena Crosbie, President of Tero International facilitates this Tero Tips video.
