037 Miwa U9 pick and full gutting. 9 unmastered levers. Black 2.

Picked with a Law Lock Tools Valyrian Euro Hook 1 and Multipick Champion tensioner. Yabende made a Miwa U9 tutorial video which was critical in helping me understand this lock, I highly recommend it.    • MIWA U9 Padlock picked in hand + TUTO...   The Miwa U9 is a lever lock with a fairly open keyway. Serrated levers often skip out of position and the false gates grab the sidebar tightly. Getting out of a false gate is very difficult and often results in dropping several other levers. Oversets happen easily and are hard to recover (but not impossible) without resetting the lock. Jiggle testing will produce a very slight jiggle of the lever, to the point that scrubbing the pick back and forth across the lever may prove to be a better method as you'll hear the lever more clearly than you might feel it. While progressive levering is possible, it requires prying off parts of the core frame which can be a nerve wracking experience. It will get easier with repeated disassembly, though, as the metal bits wear. I highly recommend progressive levering to help you gain an understanding of how the levers work and feel. Progressive levering will enable you to learn what true gates and false gates feel like, without the frustration of loosing a lot of progress to do so. It will also enable you to observe how the levers behave when overset. Unlike a pin tumbler lock, where an overset will result in one pin feeling stiff while all others will be springy, an overset lever in the Miwa U9 can remain jiggly and leaving you wondering what happened. When done with patience and precision, oversets can be recovered, though I must admit, it will be with varying degrees of success. 0:00 Intro 0:44 Picking start 9:02 Everything drops 15:43 Open 16:20 Gutting start 17:20 Cylinder 18:14 Sidebar / springs 19:17 Lever gates 21:10 Levers closeup 26:35 Cylinder w/ better light 27:35 Guts closeup In keeping with the spirit of the locksport community: Do not use any of the information presented for illegal purposes.
