He attended Tranquility Boys' Intermediate Government School and Queen's Royal College in Port of Spain, He won an island scholarship in 1932, and attended St Catherine's College, Oxford). In 1935, he received his B.A in history and in 1938 his doctorate. The Hon. Dr. Eric Eustace Williams the first Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago. Williams on 15 January 1956 inaugurated his own political party, the People's National Movement (PNM), which would take Trinidad and Tobago into independence in 1962, and dominate its post-colonial politics. He served as prime minister until his death in 1981.
