KHBBS (PS4) Crit Lvl 1 - Master Eraqus, No Surges/Magic/Shotlocks/Guard/Damage (read description)

This is a pretty interesting fight and there are some cool things you can do. Aerial Slam is completely busted, you can no damage the whole fight with 8 aerial slams, but that doesn't make for a good video. (more below) Eraqus would honestly be a top tier fight if he didn't have a random autocounter. Consistent autocounter is fine, random autododge like vanitas is stupid but fine, but a fucking random autocounter is simply unacceptable game design. For that reason alone I couldn't do a lot of the things I wanted to unless I gave up the no damage part, but I didn't want to. In particular, Ars Solum is immediately useless. He CAN autocounter on your very first attack, like before he staggers at all, but it's honestly pretty rare and so I played the fight as though that can't happen, opening up Geo Impact as an option which does an insane amount of damage and honestly I don't think a lot of people know how good it is. Also, if you're spaced correctly, even if he autocounters Geo Impact you have enough time to dash away. I wish I could have gotten that for the video, but oh well. Aerial Slam speaks for itself, but it's worth explaining how to deal with autocounter. If he autocounters the first hit, do the second two hits as normal and the third hit will stagger. If he autocounters the second hit, just dont do the third hit. You 100% will get hit if you do the third hit in that case. If he autocounters the third hit you're fine. Somehow I didn't get autocounter on the first or second hit in this video, but I hope you'll believe me that it's safe. There's some weird things that can happen in phase 2, but for the most part Aerial Slam is like 99% safe when used correctly. Windcutter is pretty awesome. It's a multi hit attack which means you'll probably get autocountered if you use it when Eraqus is staggerable, which really sucks, but it has a WEIRDLY enormous guardbox, and you can see that I deflect Eraqus's projectiles back at him by using Windcutter when you would normally have to guard those. The same applies to his triple light orb attack, but Windcutter was still on cooldown the first time he used it, and I hesitated the second time he used it because he has the same callout line for the triple orb and fire pillar in phase 2. Freeze Raid is really good. Eraqus will sometimes stand still or walk around doing nothing so I use Freeze Raid to try to make something happen, as well as getting good damage when it lands. Eraqus didn't use his rotating lasers DM in this fight for some reason, but I like to use Freeze Raid there as well because he can't guard during either DM. As for the fire pillar DM, there's not much you can do besides shotlock (which I restricted out) or wait for it to end. My final Geo Impact at the end of that DM was timed pretty much perfectly, all I really know is that the DM lasts a little longer than the four Slides I normally do to dodge it, and I just kinda felt when to do it. Ice Slide is weird. I honestly don't think I've ever seen him autocounter it, which is strange, so it's basically a free stagger, but it does like 1 damage and you can't really follow it up with anything except Aerial Slam. I follow it up with a regular attack at the start for swag points, but he absolutely can autocounter there. You'll notice that I never try that opening combo again. You can try using Meteor Crash in a lot of places where Geo Impact works, but the damage is inconsistent and I think it's less damage at max than Geo Impact anyway. Still, Meteor Crash is a fun way to mix up the fight if you want to. Chaos Blade is similar. Toward the end Eraqus is braindead spamming Sonic Blade. I hate when this happens because it can honestly just go on forever sometimes (YX has an almost identical issue in DDD, get your shit together Osaka). I didn't want to just spam Aerial Slam to win so I eventually mixed it up and got him to stop, but it still sucks that it happened. It's particularly annoying since I was trying to make a video, and so I want to see as much variety as I can. His teleport attack is annoying but it's reactable with either Aerial Slam or Slide, or even just walking. I think that's about it. So much wasted potential, this should have been one of the best fights in the series, but some absolute idiot pitched an autocounter for him. It's still pretty good though honestly, especially if you don't care about no-damage. I had a lot of fun figuring out the strats and making this video. Also the music is really good.
