The OKACOM research team began their journey by visiting the source of the Cubango river near a town called Chicala choluhanga in Huambo province, Southern Angola and proceed through Kavango river in Namibia and ending in Botswana’s Kavango Delta. OKACOM’s joint basin wide water resources monitoring survey at Queve river, focused on flow measurements and collecting water samples to analyse its quality. The samples will then be examined at the laboratory in order to guide the government to take appropriate action.The research team proceeded to monitor the rivers at selected monitoring sites and stations of the Kuvango, Quito and Cubango river in Angola, Okavango river in Namibia and OKavango delta in Botswana. The team also continued with community consultations to share more information on the utilisation of the river resources and challenges they face at every site. The trans boundary Cubango - Okavango river basin covering approximately 323 192 kilometre square, is one of the river systems in Southern Africa, which requires intervention to ensure that its resources are used and managed sustainably. These fourth longest river in the world stretches for about 1,700 kilometres across three countries from Angola, through Namibia and ending in Botswana, where is transforms into another remarkable UNESCO world heritage site, the Okavango delta.
