Hired a car for a day to get out of Melbourne to visit "nearby" town of Bendigo. Bendigo is the site of the Central Deborah Gold Mine, a mine that dates back to the Gold Rush boom years of 1900s. Above ground, you can explore the camp and equipment used by the miners, below ground and into the tunnels, there is a guided tour for a small fee of a trip underground into the tunnels of a real gold mine, above ground you can view the different parts of a gold mining camp including all the equipment used over the period. The return trip is 153 km, traffic near to Melbourne starts to get heavy, therefore a rest stop is highly recommended.
