Radiation Protection Standards

Based on the U.S.N.R.C. 10CFR Part 20, Standards for Protection Against Radiation, which establish regulatory standards for protection against ionizing radiation associated with activities performed by licensees under the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. These NRC regulations are designed to control the possession, use and disposal of licensed material by any licensee in such a way that the total radiation dose to any individual does not exceed the set standards for protection. This video program calls out the occupational dose limits and limits for the general public set by these regulations. It also highlights the major changes that were made in the 10CFR Part 20 in 1991. While these changes are no longer new, the information presented is still applicable to all users of radioactive materials in the United States. Topics discussed include: · Dose Equivalent Absorbed Dose x Quality Factor · Committed Dose Equivalent Ingested or inhaled radioactive materials · Committed Effective Dose Equivalent (CEDE) Summation of Internal Dose Equivalent and External Dose Equivalent · Total Effective Dose Equivalent Summation of CEDE and Deep Dose Equivalent from external exposures · Occupational dose limits for Adults Minors · Dose limits for: Embryo/Fetus General Public · Weighting Factors · Annual Limit on Intake · Derived Air Concentrations · External Exposures Deep Dose Equivalent Shallow Dose Equivalent Eye Dose Equivalent · Planned Special Exposures · Work Areas and limits within areas Unrestricted Area Controlled Area Radiation Area High Radiation Area Very High Radiation Area Airborne Radioactivity Area · Surveying and Monitoring · Handling and Storage of radioactive materials · Record Keeping and Reporting
