Coaster Brook Trout - Research & Restoration by Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa 2021

This is a recorded Zoom presentation by Red Cliff fisheries biologist Ian Harding during a Wild Rivers Chapter Meeting on Oct. 13, 2021. Coasters are brook trout that exhibit an adfluvial life history in the Great Lakes Basin, spawning in tributary streams where the young rear from 1 to 4 years before migrating to the lake. Once abundant throughout the nearshore areas of Lake Superior, today, their abundance and distribution has been severely reduced and there are active programs around Lake Superior with the goal of restoring these populations. Ian shared with us the history of Coasters in Lake Superior and ongoing lake-wide Coaster Brook Trout rehabilitation projects, including efforts by the Miskwaabekong Treaty Natural Resources Division.
