"Fertility Rites": An Interview with Christos Hatzis and Ji Hye Jung — Camerata Pacifica

Christos Hatzis' "Fertility Rites" uses as its inspiration Inuit throat singing, and incorporates the singing of Angela Atagootak and Puline Kyak, who, in 1995, when the recordings were made, were high school students in Iqaluit, Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic. This fascinating interview examines the very different approaches to the piece; from the perspective of the composer and that of the performer. Those perspectives will meet onstage later this month, in live performances of the work.
