Bruce Reynolds Train Robber Torquay

At 5am on November the 9th 1968 at Cap Martin Braddons Hill Rd East Torquay 36 yr old Londoner Bruce Reynolds was arrested for masterminding and taking part in the well organised Great Train Robbery that took place near Ledburn Buckinghamshire on August 8th 1963. Former antiques dealer Reynolds who loved cars, women, crime and jazz went peacefully with the Police who had surrounded the villa only finding £3,000 in used notes and a case of champagne. The raid on the mail train by the gang of 15 netted £2,631,834 in old 10,5,and £1notes which is the equivelant of almost £56 million in todays money. Bruce obtained false passports and went on the run to Acapulco Mexico with his wife and son Nick they were joined there with Buster Edwards another train robber and his family in 1964 to celebrate Christmas all their antics can be seen in the 1988 hit film Buster starring rock star Phil Collins as Buster Edwards and Larry Lamb as Bruce Reynolds ,well worth watching in my humble opinion. Bruce starting running out of money due to his lavish Mexican lifestyle and had to move to Canada and then France and then back to London to get hold of more of his stolen money. He decided London was no longer safe for him and moved to his new hideaway in Torquay. Bruce rented the Cap Martin a1930's Modernist 4 bed villa overlooking Torquay harbour using his false identity of Mr Keith Hillier, incidentally the previous occupant of the villa had been Sid James of The Carry on fame. The next door neighbour said they were a very ordinary family with their son Nick attending the local Catholic Priory school in St Marychurch often picked up by Bruce in his brand new red Mini Cooper S 1275 mk2. Local gossip revealed that Bruce would regularly pay his milkman with an old fiver which alerted the Police. The official line is they tracked him down after tracing calls to London. Bruce was convicted in 1969 to a 25 yr jail sentence however he only served 11 years because of his very good behaviour and was released in 1980. Sadly Bruce died in 2013 age 81 in Croydon London. Mmmmm going on to prove that you NEVER really know who your neighbours are hope you enjoyed this Video and true story watch Part 2 shortly on gedanded.
