Medical Animation: Glenn Operation | Cincinnati Children's

https://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/r... Medical Animation: Glenn Operation Bidirectional Glenn Operation: The Bidirectional Glenn Operation typically follows the Norwood procedure for patients with a single ventricle like Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). This procedure, usually done between ages of 6 months and 2 years, changes how blood flow gets to the lungs. The tube that connected the pulmonary artery to either the aorta (Blalock-Taussig or BT shunt) or the right ventricle (Sano) is taken down. The Superior Vena Cava, the vein that collects the blood returning from the upper part of the body, is then connected directly to the pulmonary artery. At this point the upper body blood flow to the lungs is passive, meaning there is no pump (ventricle) sending blood to the lungs. The blood returning from the lower part of the body (the inferior vena cava) still returns to the right atrium and ultimately gets pumped out to the body.
