Approximately 10% of many cancers are due to an inherited susceptibility. Understanding one’s individual risks for cancer can allow for personalized screening and prevention strategies. This information may also informed cancer treatments, as well as provide an opportunity for relatives to understand their cancer risk. This session reviews the features of hereditary cancers, the process of genetic counseling and explain the risks, benefits, and limitations of undergoing genetic testing for cancer risk.
