Chapter 4: Office Complex After escaping from the Sector C test labs, Freeman takes an elevator to the administrative offices, bringing him one step closer to the surface. However, he discovers that the aliens have also overrun the complex, leaving only a handful of survivors. Freeman must round up the remaining personnel and find a way topside while combating more zombified personnel and alien slaves. Luckily, he is able to acquire a deadly new weapon - the Shotgun. Playlist with all completed chapters:    • Black Mesa: Definitive Edition (Full ...   Notes: - Gordon can have up to 6 people follow him to the end of the chapter. Doing so will net the achievement "Our Brains and Your Brawn" - If Gordon doesn't kill the Zombie at 6:02 fast enough, it will kill the Guard, preventing Gordon from getting the Shotgun until later on in the level - The Shotgun used to first appear in the next chapter, "We've Got Hostiles"; the Magnum would have been obtained at 6:33 instead. The devs switched it around so that it is more in line with HL1. As well, having the Magnum was incredibly OP because Vorts are a one-shot kill on all difficulties except Hard with it. Even on Hard, a shot to the eye will still kill them in one shot. I'm glad for the change personally - "Firing both barrels" is a completely non-sensical thing that the shotguns in Half-Life games always feature. This cannot be done with their real-life counterparts - You can simply run past the first turret at 10:25 as it is busy shooting at headcrabs. For the sake of highlighting the Guard's unique lines and script when dealing with the turret, I opted to bring him with me first before shooting it out - The Guard's lines at 11:54 only play if Freeman shoots out the turret as opposed to disabling it - As shown at 12:03 it is possible to shut off the turret without engaging it, by using the boxes as cover to sneak underneath it and throwing the switch - Taking the path at 16:01 not only nets you an achievement, but allows Gordon to disable the turret at 17:04. This is critical if attempting to save the scientists/guards, as the turret will slaughter them if Gordon had elected to take the main staircase without shutting it down - From user the_kovic, regarding the alternate path above: "The path is accessible in original HL1 as well. All you have to do is destroy the ceiling with the crowbar. In Black Mesa, this is not the case - the ladder is simply open" - Guards have a tendency to shoot friendly NPCs if they are in the way of their line of fire. For instance, it is quite common for the Guards to injure or even kill each other unintentionally during the big cafeteria fight at 21:21 - Once you've reached the elevator shaft where you need to jump across the gap, you can stay back and get unique dialogue from some of the guards and scientists you saved (29:21) Trivia: - In HL1 it is possible to save the scientist from getting eaten by the Barnacle at 0:31. It is also possible in this game, as explained by user PHR16384 : "Actually it is possible to save that guy from the Barnacle in BM too (at least in v1.0, which I made a video about): Don't trigger the scripted scene ("Hello? Who's there?"), go straight into the hole in the wall, bringing a junk item with you (there's several on the shelves beside the hole). If you're quick enough, you can have the Barnacle's tongue snag the prop instead of the scientist, giving just enough time to kill it before it spits out the inedible prop" From ‪@JustAGamerPerson‬: "When you go near the window that shows the houndeye staring at the TV while he’s with you, he’ll exclaim “Holy shit, it’s a dinosaur!” at which point the houndeye will stand up and yell at the two of you. The guard’ll say “Back up! Back up!” followed by “Oh yeah, I’m asking for a raise.” after retreating from the window." - The first of three emergency broadcasts in the game is heard at 3:52 - In previous versions of the game, there are a couple of zombies in the hallway at 3:55. Due to the change in the Shotgun spawn, the zombie ambush has been moved to after Freeman gets the weapon (7:28) - The sprinklers will only turn on at 4:03 if Gordon burns an enemy - In previous versions of the game, Vortigaunts would ambush Gordon as soon as he leaves the area at 6:52. However, this ambush is now removed in favour of a Zombie attack - In HL1 it is possible to turn off the lightswitch at 8:47, which makes it safe to traverse the flooded room without having to stay on the shelves - The G-man makes his 4th appearance at 28:24 - Gordon can prematurely kill the scientist on the ladder at 30:52 by shooting at him until he falls off - There is no way to save the scientist on the ladder - he falls to his untimely death regardless of how fast Gordon gets to him
