Which is Your Favourite Mug?

At the end of this video there's a numbered montage of all the mugs... comment with the number of your favourite piece! (28:03 - if you want to skip to that part). Creating one-off, individual mugs is the topic of this week's video. From throwing them on my potter's wheel, trimming them, attaching and pulling handles, bisque firing the pots, waxing, glazing and finally reduction firing them to 1290ºC. There's A LOT in this video, I hope you like it! 🌫 • YSP EXHIBITION INFORMATION: https://ysp.org.uk/whats-on/exhibitio... 📖 • ORDER MY BOOK: https://geni.us/bymyhands (AVAILABLE NOW IN THE UK — 14/11/23 IN 🇺🇸) 🏺 • If you want to learn how to throw a pot, you might like my 'A Beginner's Guide' series:    • How to Throw a Pot — A Beginner's Guide   ⚙️ • Spinner tool, made by Richard Carter, (you need to DM him on Instagram to purchase one):   / richardcarter6952   📢 • Find out much more about my work here: https://linktr.ee/floriangadsby ⏱ • Timecodes: 0:00 - Introduction — Talking YSP and my book 1:35 - Throwing mugs 3:32 - Why I'm throwing on batts, and not wiring them off 4:15 - Wiring off tip 5:30 - Trimming the mugs using a chuck 8:36 - Pulling the handles for the mugs 14:14 - Carving the handles once they're leather hard 15:30 - Quality control 16:54 - Unpacking the bisque firing, (to 1000ºC) 17:36 - Waxing the bases of the mugs 18:44 - Glazing the mugs 21:13 - Cleaning up the glazed mugs 22:03 - Packing the gas kiln 24:01 - Reduction firing the gas kiln to 1290ºC 25:09 - Unpacking the kiln 26:58 - Polishing the bases of the cups 28:03 - THE MUG MONTAGE (let me know which ones you like most!) *It's worth noting! That you won't get the same results as I do if you're firing in oxidation. The reduction firing really helps with this process. *I throw using both a Rohde HMT 500 & 600 potter's wheel and fire using Rohde kilns too, the electric is a TE-200 and the gas kiln is a KG-340. ____ Instagram –   / floriangadsby   TikTok –   / floriangadsby   Website – http://www.floriangadsby.com
