Diving Turks and Caicos Islands

Made up of over forty islands and cays, with only eight being inhabited, the name Turks is derived after the indigenous Turk's Head "fez" cactus and the name Caicos is a Lucayan term cay hico, meaning string of islands. The islands are geographically part of the southeastern Bahamas archipelago and is actually on a plateau of limestone that plummets to over 8,000 ft. The abysmally deep, 22-mile-wide Columbus Passage separates the Turks Islands from the Caicos Islands, thus forming an ideal area for the movement of migrating humpback whales to the Silver Bank in winter. This topography also enables some of the most awesome wall dives along Grand Turk and Salt Cay with infinite visibility. With over 230 miles of white-sand beaches and captivating blue water, the Turks and Caicos Islands is as beautiful above as it is underwater. The main diving areas are located on the Northwest Point, West Caicos, Grace Bay, Grand Turk and Salt Cay.
