The Grand Final was held in the Sondheim Theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue, London, on Sunday 9th June 2024 and saw 12 finalists (plus two reserves) compete for the £1,000 first prize before a panel of judges comprising Fra Fee, Callum Scott Howells, Jak Malone, Alex Parker, Society patron Jenna Russell and chair of the jury, Edward Seckerson. Finalists had to sing one song with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, plus a song from the catalogue at New UK Musicals (in order to honour Steve Sondheim's wish of always supporting new writing for the stage). The afternoon also featured an ensemble from the National Youth Music Theatre, who will be presenting Sondheim and Lapine's Into the Woods later this year at the Southwark Playhouse. As the judges deliberated, the 2023 winner Milly Willows returned for a repeat of her winning "Worst Pies in London" from Sweeney Todd; Pacific Overtures star Joaquin Pedro Valdes shared a duet version of "Giants in the Sky" with Ronav Jain, who is playing Jack in the upcoming NYMT Into The Woods; Jack Quarton and Molly Osborne treated us to "Time" from the upcoming West End transfer of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, written by Jethro Compton and Darren Clark (founder of New UK Musicals), and our host Bonnie ended with her rendition of "I'm Stil Here", opting for the Shirely MacLaine version from the movie Postcards from the Edge. The judges singled out three performances: Oliver Halford from Emil Dale Academy was commended; Gavin Rasmussen from LAMDA was runner-up, and the Royal Academy of Music's Madeleine Morgan was the overall winner.
